I have seen a lot of comment on different networks and sites about the Derren Brown programme that was broadcast over last weekend. Having not seen it I cannot comment directly on what was said, shown or suggested.
In a recent copy of Readers Digest there was an interview with Derren Brown in which he stated that he had been a Christian in his teenage years but had gone away from the faith as he started to become interested in hypnosis and was told by members of the church that he attended that it was ‘of the devil’.
Whatever the truth of that perspective, by rejecting the man we have created a monster. Christians are far too quick to judge those with whom they don’t agree and in the process alienate them from the grace of God. The only people Jesus condemned were the religious people who kept the rest of the crowds away from knowing God! Let us be those who lead people to the love and grace of God and, in gentlness bring correction where that is necessary.
Returning to the subject of the miraculous, I long to see more of it amongst us. However, I want to see the real thing and not that propogated by charlatans who use the good news of Jesus Christ to manipulate people in order to make money for themselves. May God in his grace and mercy, by the power of His Spirit demonstrate his love amongst us through healing the sick, not so man can benefit but so that He might be glorified.
