Update on The Brink

UPDATE APRIL 2013

What:

The Brink is an experiment from Beverley Community Church to launch our first missional community. We define a missional community as

A community of Christ followers on mission with God in obedience to the Holy Spirit that demonstrates tangibly and declares creatively the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a specific pocket of people

Why:

A missional community presents something compelling that calls people from consumerism to the life of a missionary in community in a way that is attainable for the everyday person to live out their God given identities and calling.

Practically, in order to embody the church in unique cultures in our town, and wider region, we believe having smaller, nimble communities who are uniquely expressing the gospel in their neighbourhoods, workplaces, and networks of people are needed.

Throughout the New Testament, it seems that the community is involved in all facets of life, not simply a once a week gathering for mutual accountability and encouragement in the mission.

The Brink will aim to feed into the ongoing activities within the BCC family and fully recognises Sundays as the central gathering from which all activities flow out of.

Who:

Due to the nature of missional communities  and the location of the core team then it was decided that it was best to be trialled within Molescroft village. However if this trial proves to be successful, and there is the heart/vision for others to come on board, we can look at forming more missional communities in other areas of the town and surrounding area.

When:

We aim to launch fully in Sept 2013.

At the moment the core team have met on a weekly basis to spend time in prayer and discussion. We have then invited members of BCC who live in, or are attached to Molescroft, to come hear the vision and to see if they wish to be involved.

Up until summer we will be meeting at Molescroft pavilion to spend time looking at the schedule and working through different evenings and activities to see what works and doesn’t work for us in our specific setting and neighbourhood. What works in one place may not work elsewhere.

We also have an event called ‘Picnic In The Park’ scheduled for the afternoon of 2nd June when we can engage and consult with the local community. More information on this will be available shortly.
