“For unto us a child is born; unto us a son is given. And the government will rest on his shoulders. And his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of his government or of peace, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore.” (Isaiah 9:6-7). There are no more profound words in the Old Testament that sum up the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and of his kingdom. Each of the titles attributed to him could form a sermon in itself. But we also have an indication of the growth of the kingdom, from his coming, until eternity. This also sums up both his first coming as the Prince of Peace, and his second coming as the one who will reign over all.
This Christmas, celebrate the coming of the Lord in his incarnation, but remember he is coming again to set the world to rights.
God bless
Richard
