August brings with it ‘the halcyon days of summer’. The term ‘halcyon days’ refers to a calm period in one’s life, often in the summer of

one’s childhood. That is how I remember most of my summers after school had broken up and I had six weeks to play out with my friends or go on

holiday. The word ‘halcyon’ comes from ancient Greek and is used in the Bible to mean rest or quiet. It is similar to the Hebrew word shalom

which brings with it an overall sense of peace and wellbeing. For each one of us, whatever we do over the next month or so, may God

give us all rest and quiet to recover our sense of wellbeing and peace.

God bless
